the last day of june

The last day of June arrived, and it has been hazy, and smoky and full of wildfires from Canada in the air. That meant it wasn’t much of a garden day for me because the smoke makes my allergies go bananas, and it’s not healthy and we had a code red unhealthy air quality day.

This morning start it with the latest psycho robins. They have had so many freaking babies. At this point I’ve lost count. And today I got dive bombed again, because I happened to be out in my own garden when a little one decides to leave the nest as a fledgling. so, of course, that meant Robin drama and they dive bombed my head multiple times until I threw a stick at one of them. At least, hopefully they’re all out of the shrubs I need to trim.

In others news, I got a bunch of fabulous Crocosima to plant, and earlier this week I planted the last two tomato plants and four chili peppers. They are on the deck in big pots on caddies with wheels.

I also tidied up the greenhouse this week. It looks respectable again, and all the chili peppers and herbs in the greenhouse have been fed, and the amaryllis bulbs are living with them for the time being. The amaryllis bulbs will just stay there until it starts to get cool once again in October, and then after they catch whenever the first frost ends up being, I will cut them off and stick them in the dark somewhere.

The hydrangeas, and the daylilies are competing for my attention, and the next section of summer is beginning. and I can’t get over all of the bees on the hydrangeas! I never knew bees liked hydrangeas so much.

Hopefully tomorrow the sky won’t be as smoky and overcast and laden with forest fire smells from Canada. But I’ll leave you with something extra special today, one of the hummingbirds.

Happy gardening.
