taboret à la culp

Taboret à la David Culp.

If you follow David, or are lucky enough to have him as a friend as I am, you learn about all sorts of cool things. One of the things I have learned from David are taborets. They are form of vignette in the garden.

David always wants you to look and then look again. Absorb what you are seeing, feel what you’re seeing. Much like another gardener and garden writer whom I am friends with, Jenny Rose Carey.

David sees these taborets as things that can stay out year round. I like that, and for me personally, the way I’ve adapted it in my garden is to add a plant or some cut flowers into the mix. I now have little things that are out year-round in my garden. Some you notice right away and some you notice after you move into the garden a bit. (Mind you, I don’t need much encouragement, because my husband will tell you I like having stuff out in the garden. I think it drives him crazy. )

Today it was roses and peonies. I don’t cut lots of flowers from my garden. I really should because I can at this point. Anyway, I just looked at my little statue and my bench, and I thought that would look really cute with an informal bunch of flowers just cut from the garden so I’ve been doing it all week. I think I will do it throughout the summer as often as possible.

Gardening is not only about your personal vision, it’s about learning from others. Because you can take the knowledge and you adapt to your space. And then you share the joy with others. Then you grow as well as your garden.

Gardening is a life plan of paying it forward.

Thank you David for sharing your knowledge and helping us to look and look again 🩷
