Spring is coming. I’m seeing the signs I got out into my flowerbeds in the front today and as I said in my little video, I was only going to trim one or two little things…. and next thing you know I’m out there for over an hour in the rain.
It felt great. It’s been a long winter. Parts of it have been very pretty but still I know we’re all itching to see signs of life and I saw signs of life. Of course I also saw more signs of deer damage but life is not perfect and I can only do my best. I’m spraying. The gardens are being sprayed. It’s better than it was. There are just too many deer, and I’m not giving up gardening so I have some replacement plants on the way – it’s what happens.

I am starting to see the fruits of my labor in the lawn because I’m seeing little heads of bulbs pop up as well as some actual crocuses
I’m seeing some snow drops a lot. Haven’t come up yet.

Also, one of my favorite witch hazels is blooming. I love witch hazel. I was introduced to witch hazel by garden author Jenny Rose Carey.
Anyway, it felt good to get out there and I’m already mentally figuring out where some of the things I have ordered will go.
This weekend is David Culp’s Galanthus Gala. I hope to get some interesting plants there and learn some new things. It’s a very reasonably priced event. I believe all the tickets to the lectures have sold out once again. I prefer it honestly to the Philadelphia Flower Show now.
So almost March that also means soon I will start my seeds.
Have a great day!

Hi, Carla, I live in an area in the Pacific Northwest that has many deer, right in town. A few years ago I read about what was called the most effective deer repellent-Deer Out. It has proven to be way more effective than anything I have used before and an added benefit is that it smells like peppermint instead of coyote pee.
I do spray more often than the directions say, but it is better than losing flowers. 🌺 In the past, I had some lilies that only kept their flowers for one day, even with the sprays I used to use- Bobbex and I can’t remember the name of the other. But the past two years with Deer Out, they have lasted through their whole cycle without being munched.
Good luck.

If you read more of my blog, you would see I do use Deer Out as well as Plant Skydd and getting sprayed. I have used Bobbex too. I appreciate your input greatly. It’s just there are so many deer here. The problem is we have rampant development and no culls
