Happy Summer Solstice!

How does your garden grow? Mine persists in spite of the challenges of drought and freaking deer and the rabbit who chomped the Campsis grandiflora “Morning Calm” from Brushwood Nursery I planted for my husband.
The drought is a real thing and I am trying only use my rain barrels water.
I feel like Sisyphus with the weeding. I try to keep up as best I can but it’s something that some days feels endless. Yes I know, gardener’s lament.
I have been repurposing my unused tomato cages to shelter young shrubs and trees from GD deer.

I lost a lot of lilies from my friend Rose’s business Hartle Gilman Gardens because they were munched over the winter. Thank goodness some survived.

I have been removing beech saplings which have sprung up. I have to sanitize and disinfect my loppers afterwards. I have noticed however the more mature beech trees are hanging in there, but some of the younger trees seem to be more affected by this.

But….in addition to Lillies and daylilies, hydrangea season is beginning and my garden needs rain but it’s still happy.
Enjoy the summer solstice.
